Disneyland Resort is around a 20 minute drive to the famous Southern California beaches, and one hour drive to the inland mountains, and two hours from the Mexican border. It is centrally located to just about everything Southern California has to offer makes for an ideal location to sightsee at well-known places. Below are quick overviews of all you can see when vacationing at The Disneyland Resort
Disneyland
Disneyland is the original park that started all the theme parks and was also the only park that Walt Disney had the pleasure of seeing through to the opening day on June 17, 1955. It’s major icons are Sleeping Beauty Castle, Space Mountain and the Matterhorn. In 2019, the park welcomed it’s largest land to date, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, otherwsie known as Batuu, or Battu West, as it has a twin at Walt Disney World.
Disney California Adventure
February 2001, a new park opened at the resort, which was once completely themed like everything California. Now most of this park has changed since its opening day leaving behind most of the California theme, but the park has continued to get better with the new additions such as Pixar Pier and Avengers Campus opening Summer 2020 (taking place of A Bug’s Land). This park is definitely geared more towards the older crowds with the rides being a little more adventurous and adult beverages being offered at every corner.
Downtown Disney District
Along with the opening of Disney California Adventure (DCA) came a downtown nightlife area known as Downtown Disney that brought fun and new restaurants and shops, as well as a nightlife separate from that inside the parks. Downtown Disney creates a passage way between all three of the Disneyland property hotels and the Disneyland Parks.
Disneyland hotels
At the resort you will find three specially themed Disney Hotels each within a short walking distance to both parks and Downtown Disney. The three hotels are the Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel, and the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
